We are open 5 days a week running after school Tuesday to Friday and a session on
Saturdays. During school holidays we run one long session on weekdays Tuesday to
Friday and the usual Saturday session as well. Please check our opening times for
more info and remember to check Bradford councils school holiday calendar to check
in advance when we will be running our holiday sessions.
The Big Swing operates on a ‘Three Frees’ basis which means:
This is the only adventure playground in the Bradford and Leeds area.
Unlike most playgrounds we give children the opportunity to take part in lots of
traditional adventure type play that most adults would remember engaging in as a
child and the opportunity to play with the elements; earth, wind, water and fire.
As play-workers we understand the importance of play and try our best to run on a
Child-centric approach which means minimal adult intervention.
We have an onsite tuck shop where children can buy sweets, crisps and drinks at low
Our Sensory garden offers water fall, rock fountain, large sand pit, herb and flower
garden, paint wall and bendy mirror as well as a space to sit and chill. Ideal for
children and young adults with learning difficulties/disabilities. We have a great
new ‘mud kitchen’ where children can let their imagination run wild.
Our indoor, eco friendly space ‘The Hobbit House’ was made by staff with help from
the children and now includes a kitchen with cooker so we can enjoy cooking indoors
as well as outside on the fire. The Hobbit House is available for hire from anyone
looking for an interesting setting for training, meetings or private play sessions.
At least 3 fully qualified play workers are on site at all times during play sessions
and are fully qualified in first aid, health & safety and safe guarding. We also
regularly support playwork students from Leeds Metropolitan University and have playwork
apprentices working with us.
